Introduction

Sarah: Hello everyone, and welcome to the Dynamic English Podcast! I’m Sarah.

Jack: And I’m Jack! Hello everyone, and thank you for joining us.

Sarah: Today, we’re talking about how to order food in English — what to say in a café or restaurant.

Jack: Mmm, I love this topic. Talking about food always makes me hungry!

Sarah: Me too! And this is a super useful topic for anyone learning English.

Jack: Yes — because everyone needs to eat, right?

Sarah: Exactly! So let’s start!

Dialogue Teaching Section

Sarah: Jack, imagine we are at a restaurant in London.

Jack: Okay! I’m ready. Let’s see… The waiter comes to our table and says, “Hello! Are you ready to order?”

Sarah: And you can say, “Yes, I’d like fish and chips, please.”

Jack: Or, “I’ll have bangers and mash, please.”

Sarah: That’s right! You can use I’d like or I’ll have to order food.

Jack: Repeat with us, everyone: “I’d like…”

Sarah: “I’ll have…”

Jack: Good job!

Sarah: And when you want a drink, you can say, “Can I have a cup of tea, please?”

Jack: Or “I’d like a cider, please.”

Sarah: Perfect! Let’s add some more useful words.

Jack: Menu — the list of food at the restaurant.

Sarah: Waiter or waitress — the person who takes your order.

Jack: Bill — the paper you pay at the end.

Sarah: And table for two — what you say when you arrive at the restaurant.

Jack: Let’s practice!

Practice Section

Sarah: Repeat after us!

Jack: A table for two, please.

Sarah: Can I see the menu, please?

Jack: I’d like fish and chips, please.

Sarah: I’ll have bangers and mash, please.

Jack: Can I have the bill, please?

Sarah: Great pronunciation!

Jack: Let’s try some full sentences.

Sarah: “Hello! A table for two, please.”

Jack: “Can I see the menu?”

Sarah: “I’d like fish and chips.”

Jack: “Can I have the bill, please?”

Sarah: Perfect!

Mini-Roleplay / Story

Sarah: Now let’s listen to a short story about our friend Emma.

Jack: Emma goes to a pub in England. She says, “Hello! A table for one, please.” The waiter gives her a menu.

Sarah: Emma looks at the menu and says, “I’d like a Cornish pasty and a cup of tea, please.”

Jack: The waiter says, “Sure! Would you like some mushy peas with that?”

Sarah: Emma says, “Yes, please.”

Jack: After she eats, Emma says, “Can I have the bill, please?”

Sarah: Excellent! Simple, polite, and natural English.

Jack: You can use these same phrases next time you go to a restaurant!
